What Is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a hospital-grade anesthetic that is exceptionally fast-acting. The FDA approved it in the 1970s to sedate patients during medical procedures and it is commonly used for sedation in children. Recent research has shown the benefit of low-dose Ketamine for the treatment in a variety of mental health disorders. Synergy Recovery Services is the only clinic in Bakersfield to offer this revolutionary treatment.

What Does It Treat?

Ketamine has shown to improve a variety of mental health disorders, including alcohol or opioid addiction, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorder, moderate to severe depression and suicidal thoughts, particularly for people who can’t find relief with traditional medication and therapy options. It also helps bridge the gap between the time someone feels severe symptoms and when prescribed antidepressants take effect — between four to six weeks.

The Yale Department of Psychiatry and Janssen Research looked at 11 hospitals around the U.S. to study ketamine for depression. People who were hospitalized for high suicide risk received a nasal spray form of ketamine, combined with antidepressants and counseling. Within four hours, the 35 people who received the treatment had better scores on a depression symptom scale than those who did not use the ketamine.

How Is It Administered?

Ketamine is administered intravenously over 40 minutes in a private room at our medical facility under the supervision of trained professionals. Once infused, individuals start feeling relief from their depression and suicidal thoughts within minutes to hours. Patients will get infusions weekly to twice weekly for 3 weeks, followed by monthly to quarterly “booster” infusions if needed.

What Are Signs You Might Need Ketamine?

Ketamine treatment in Bakersfield is an option if you haven’t found something that works for you. If you have treatment-resistant depression, uncontrolled PTSD, anxiety or OCD, or just can’t find relief from your suicidal thoughts, ketamine is a non-traditional treatment that may work for you.

If your suicidal thoughts are severe and you can’t wait until your antidepressants kick in, ketamine might work for you. Since it’s fast-acting, it has the potential to save your life if you’re contemplating suicide. However, ketamine is not a long-term solution since the effect does not last after about four weeks. It should get combined with other treatment options for the best results.

How to Get Started With Ketamine Treatment in Bakersfield

You don’t need to live with uncontrolled depression, PTSD, OCD, anxiety or suicidal thoughts forever. Ketamine in Bakersfield is a viable option that may provide the sense of security and treatment you need when you’re ready to try something new.

Talk to your doctor about whether ketamine is a possible way to treat the depression you’re struggling with. Then, contact Synergy Recovery about ketamine and get started on your journey to health and happiness today.
